  • Description : The Central Plateau,

Department located at east of Haiti, apparently abandoned. The Centre department has an area of 3,750 km2, or approximately 13.5% of the area of the national territory. It is the third in size after the Western and Artibonite departments  with a population of about 600,000 inhabitants.

Overview

  •  The Central Plateau is not only a protected area from earthquakes and hurricanes but also a region dotted with tourist sites. This department by its topography, presents minimal risk to investment. For this reason, it must attract large investments considering the level of risks is almost negligible.

    - Low Risk of rising sea levels
    - Low seismic risk
    - Low  landslide  risk
    - Low  flooding  risk

The fall of Bassin Zim located near Papaye in the town of Hinche could attract hundreds of visitors daily. But the lack of infrastructure and the erosion which decreases the speed of the fall could cause the disappearance of this heritage in a few years. Caves Layaye ( located in   Juanaria section)  and Saltadère  in serca La Source section may release hot and cold water.

They could, according to residents of the area serve as a magnet for tourists. Seau d'Eau, declared Natural Park, is a fertile land, where there is an abundance of water.

Seau d'Eau  is located at 65 kms from the capital with a rich, diverse vegetation. Thanks to its caves including those of Marotière and Doco, Seau d'Eau  could become the largest tourist destination in the country. Saut d'Eau is also a place of pilgrimage because of the presence of such sites: Immaculée, Calvaire, Palmes that make it a place of pilgrimage.

Still, Saut d'Eau cannot feed her son. Residents interviewed did not hide their dissatisfaction with leaders who they believe did nothing to meet their needs in terms of support for agricultural production and access to basic social services.

A few kms from the city of Hinche, in the locality of Colladère a fantastic cave houses monuments of pre-Columbian times. This is a unique cave throughout the Haitian territory.

There is also the hydroelectric power station PELIGRE serving the capital since 1971 and must supply the city of Hinche. The dam, with a height of 72 m, operates on an artificial lake, Lake of PELIGRE, which can also be a tourist attraction.

For some time, access to part of the Central Plateau has been improved thanks to the road that reaches # 3 road (Hinche). We should be able to exploit the tourism potential to boost economic activity and ensure the community with important entries.

The Central Plateau is among the regions with high rainfall. It records an average rainfall of 1,500 mm per year. From April to June, the trade winds penetrate deeper in the Dominican Republic and back to San Juan Valley to lead the Central area of Haiti.

They bring heavy rainfall which are added in October, rainfall brought by the east winds that also move up the San Juan Valley. With all its considerations, the Central Plateau is the safe zone for significant investments especially in the field of agriculture.

Now speaking of agriculture, we must reflect on smart agriculture depending on two issues at once: Food insecurity and climate change. Let's take two interesting sectors: The Francique mango and Moringa

    1- The Francique mango

Variety highly appreciated in the US and Canada, can bring major currencies in the country. Parameters: a  Francique  mango tree gives at minimum 125 dozen of s elected  mangoes  by year.

On a land hectare, you can plant 100 mango trees. So, a resident can provide 12,500 mangoes that would bring him a lot of money inside and outside the country. This sector would have  positive  impacts  on the economy and the environment. It should prepare nurseries to launch a campaign objective by May 2016. It is possible! Let's go!

Start by preparing the seedlings. the goal is to have one million (1,000,000) seedlings for the campaign. To all of you are part of this approach tends to save the Haitian environment, strengthen the economy.

    2- Moringa

Moringa is a miracle plant for Haiti. People operating in the health sector are unanimous in recognizing him. It contains three times more iron than spinach, much potassium as eggs, seven times as much vitamin C as orange, four times as much vitamin A than carrots, three times more potassium than bananas and four times more calcium than milk.

Is a plant that adapts to any climate. It is resistant to drought. That's all appropriated to Haiti who knows several years of acute drought situation. The Moringa is a variety of shrubs for multiple uses. Used its leaves, its roots and green pods as vegetables.

All parts of the shrub such: bark, pods, leaves, nuts, seeds, tubers, roots and flowers are used in food and can be marketed.  The Moringa leaves are used fresh or dried and processed into powder.

The pods of the plant of Moringa Olifera containing the seeds are harvested when still green to cooking for consumption purposes. Its dry seeds, extraction of fresh oil still own cooking.

This oil, derived from the Moringa, not dry and is easily maintained. Moringa can be consumed in various forms. The seeds are eaten green, roasted, powdered, or soaked in tea or the stable. The Moringa leaves are rich in protein and vitamins A, BC, D and E and minerals. It is highly recommended to pregnant women and nursing to make frequent use in their consumption and that of infants.

This plant is not afraid of the drought, shooting of buds, leaves and pods throughout the year. It is an inexhaustible source of green vegetable. It grows quickly and has no season. However, it does not tolerate waterlogged soil. This grass, a shrub used as windbreaks and protects the soil against erosion. The extracts of Moringa products have antibiotic properties, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory.

Moringa is also used to minimize the risk of developing certain diseases such: trypanosomes, ulcers, hypocholesterolemia, hypoglycemia. It is also used to regulate blood pressure. It's a real source of maternal and child nutrition, medicine and income for the family. It is planned to prepare moringa seedlings 1,000,000
