- Santo Domingo.- The head of the country´s biggest truckers union (FENATRADO) on Thursday announced a halt on freight transport to Haiti starting Monday.
Blas Peralta said the decision comes one week after 60 trucks were reportedly stoned and their load torched by Haitian mobs, incidents he affirms led to losses of RD$100 million.
In a press conference Peralta said the conflict started when two Haitians in an alleged brawl at the border town Jimani where one killed the other. He said the body was then taken across the border to Fond-Parisien, where people had said it was a Dominican who killed the Haitian.
