Overview

  • PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) - First Lady Sophia Saint Remy Martelly received several objections to her candidacy for the Senate before the period for accepting objections ended at the Department Electoral Offices on Sunday, April 26, 2015.

The complainants challenged the senatorial hopeful on holding multiple nationalities and for having officially managed $234 million of public funds and not receiving an audit and discharge from those duties. Matters that would make her ineligible for the 2015 cycle.

Among objections were those submitted by Jean David Colin and signed by Nahomie Obéissant, Fritzner Milhomme and Abel Pierre, all members of the Justice (Jistis - 39) political party.

They challenged that the Sophia Martelly held citizenship in the United States of America at the time she registered her candidacy. This would be a violation of of the Electoral Law of 2015 and Constitution of Haiti.
